Tell me about inspections.
Our Fire Marshall handles fire safety/code inspections for businesses, churches, public meeting places, homes, etc. for all locations within the Gladstone City limits. He’ll work with you to identify fire safety problems, and to find solutions that will work for you. His aim is to help you insure a safe place to live, work, meet, etc. While all businesses in Gladstone are subject to periodic inspections, the Fire Marshall is always willing to meet anyone’s request to have an inspection at their location. Call Mike Funk at 503 557 2775 or e-mail him at Funk@ci.gladstone.or.us .
Tell me about tours.
If your group is interested in getting a tour of our Fire Department, then call Jeff Smith at 503 557 2774 or e-mail him at Smith@ci.gladstone.or.us . Tours are available to any group, any age. Tours must be scheduled in advance.
Tell me about Fire Extinguishers.
Every home, business, meeting place, etc. should have one or more fire extinguishers in them. Once you’ve purchased and installed or stored them, you should periodically check them to insure that they’re still properly charged (or still working). To find out more about this, call Mike Funk at 503 557 2775 or e-mail him at Funk@ci.gladstone.or.us .
Tell me about Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors.
Every home, business, meeting place, etc. should have detectors present to protect those present. They should also be periodically tested, and the batteries should be replaced on a regular basis, depending on the average battery life (some batteries need to be replaced once a year, while others now have a 10 year life). For more information on smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, or to find out how many of each type you need and where they need to be located, call Mike Funk at 503 557 2775 or e-mail him at Funk@ci.gladstone.or.us .
I had a fire, now what to I do?
Your actions and needs will depend upon the extent of and type of damage that was done. Visit the Fire Station and ask for a copy of the “After a Fire” pamphlet. It contains useful information dealing with topics such as Immediate aftermath, Considerations for insurance claims, Temporary relocation needs, Clean up and salvage, Clearing the air, and Personal recovery.
