How can Gladstone support safe and responsible e‑bike use in our community? Police Chief Schmerber and the Gladstone Traffic Safety Advisory Board invite you to a community conversation on Monday, June 29th at 6:00 pm in the Gladstone Council Chambers.

E‑bikes and other micro‑mobility devices have become a popular, convenient way for people of all ages to get around. With that growth, the City has also received an increasing number of concerns about unsafe riding in parks and on neighborhood streets.

Our goal is to explore how these devices can coexist safely with pedestrians, drivers, and other park users—without discouraging their benefits or limiting mobility. We want to hear your experiences, ideas, and perspectives as we consider potential guidelines or regulations that support both safety and access. Please join us and be part of shaping solutions that work for everyone in Gladstone.

In the meantime, please take this 2-minute survey on e-bikes. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ZLJ38V8

Gladstone Paving Project- In April, the City Council approved the contract for the 2026 Gladstone Paving Project, and contractors are scheduled to begin work on June 22 and be finished by the end of June. This project is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to invest in and improve Gladstone’s roadways. As part of that strategy, staff identify streets that require more substantial repairs, including grind‑and‑inlay treatments.

During the 2023 roadway rating process, the City evaluated pavement conditions and selected streets for several upcoming years of pavement management work. This approach allows Gladstone to make the most of existing funds and maximize capital investment. A total of 19 roadways are included in this year’s project which is expected to be highly visible effort throughout the community, and we appreciate your patience as we work to improve our roadways.

Gladstone 2026 Slurry Seal Project- A slurry seal project is basically a way to give a street a fresh protective layer so it lasts longer. Crews spread a thin mix of asphalt, water, and fine gravel over the road. This seals small cracks, protects the pavement from weather, and helps prevent bigger, more expensive repairs later. During this work, streets are usually closed for a few hours while the material dries. Once it’s cured, the road looks darker and has a new, slightly rough surface that smooths out over time. Paralleling the Gladstone Paving Project, a separate contractor has been hired to perform slurry seal work primarily on E. Dartmouth, W. Exeter and W Gloucester.

Where’s K-9 Nanuk…..’s birthday party? Come celebrate K‑9 Nanuk’s 10th birthday! Join us on June 24th from 1:00–1:30 pm at Max Patterson Park as we celebrate a very special milestone for one of Gladstone’s most beloved team members. K‑9 Nanuk is turning 10 this year, and it will be his final birthday on duty before he begins a well‑earned retirement. He has spent years serving our community with dedication, loyalty, and an impressive nose for keeping Gladstone safe. Nanuk—and his partner, K‑9 Officer Olson—would love to see you there. Stop by to wish him a happy birthday, snap a photo, share a memory, or simply thank him for his service. Happy Birthday!

The Sherwood Forest Watermain Replacement Project – Phase 1 is part of the City’s ongoing effort to upgrade aging water pipes in one of Gladstone’s neighborhoods, improving reliability, reducing breaks, and strengthening fire flow for residents. This work is funded through the community’s utility bills, ensuring that your utility dollars are invested directly back into essential infrastructure that keeps water service safe and dependable. Through this RFP, the City is seeking an engineering partner to design the first phase of improvements, marking the beginning of a multi‑year plan to modernize the entire system.

Gladstone City Council- Parks and Recreation Board Work Session – The Gladstone City Council and the Parks and Recreation Board will hold a joint work session on Tuesday, June 23 at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. During the meeting, staff will discuss with both bodies whether the City should transition to a mobile app for collecting parking fees. Staff will also share updates on a couple economic development projects currently underway at the park. No packet materials are included, but a presentation will be provided.
