Don’t forget to stop by Max Patterson Park on Saturday July 4th for the annual Police and Fire Community BBQ. Hot Dogs will be provided from noon- 2 pm (or until gone). Gladstone’s Fourth of July celebrations bring fun and community spirit, but they also come with important safety considerations—especially for pets. Local fire officials urge residents to follow Oregon’s fireworks laws, use only permitted consumer‑legal fireworks, and keep children and pets at a safe distance to prevent injuries and reduce wildfire risk.

Metro Community Choice Grant Projects The Community Choice Grants Final Vote concluded with 3,164 verified votes, more than doubling participation from the first vote in November and nearly doubling Washington County’s final vote totals. This strong turnout reflects exceptional community engagement and the effective outreach efforts of partners across the program area.

The Community Choice Grants Review Committee completed its evaluation of the Final Vote results and assessed the proposed project slate for equitable distribution and alignment with the goals of the 2019 Metro Parks and Nature Bond and the Community Choice Grants program. Following their review, the committee recommended 23 projects for Metro Council approval at the July 21 session. The City of Gladstone was recommended to receive funding for three projects:

  • Meldrum Bar Park River Restoration — A project enhancing river access with accessible spur paths, safer pedestrian crossings, new benches, added shade trees, and interpretive signage that highlights the river’s ecology and cultural history.
  • Natural Shade at Max Patterson Park — An initiative to plant additional trees and install nature‑based shade structures, creating a cooler, more comfortable environment for park visitors.
  • Shade for Clackamas North Bank — A habitat‑focused effort to plant shade trees and native vegetation, improving ecological health and enhancing visitor comfort along the river.
