The City of Gladstone has contracted Blackline, Inc. to apply a Slurry Seal to your street or one nearby. Please have all personal property (e.g. vehicles/basketball hoops/dumpsters/trailers/RVs/Etc) off the street to be sealed by 6:30 a.m. so that the sweeping and preparation can be completed prior seal. You may park in your driveway and have access to the road until 7:00 a.m. We look to have all roads open by 6:00 p.m. (Weather Dependent)
Benefits of Slurry Seal - Slurry Seal is a protective, asphalt emulsion is applied to the roadway, which helps extend the existing roadway, approximately 5-7 years. This process is considered a maintenance measure which helps to seal the existing pavement against the intrusion of water, fill in small cracks and provide a uniform surface, improving drivability and skid resistance. Slurry seals do not add any structural value to the streets, but is a cost effective maintenance treatment that extends the life of our roadways.
TRAFFIC IMPACTS - It will be necessary to CLOSE your or one of your access streets to driving, parking and foot traffic. Parking violators will be subject to towing. Driving to and from your driveway on the day of closure will be restricted. Your street will be open when the barricades at the ends of the street have been removed.
When first applied slurry seal is wet and sticky. Vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians, CHILDREN AND PETS must be kept off streets until slurry seal is dry and the street is reopened. Slurry seal is very difficult to remove from all surfaces including skin and carpets. Any damage to your car, due to driving through the slurry seal will be your responsibility. You may also be held responsible for damages to the roadway.
What to Do
- On your slurry seal day, park your car out of the work area – BE SURE TO CHECK THE DATE OF THE NO PARKING SIGNS IN YOUR AREA
- If it is your trash/recycling day, leave trash cans at the curb before 6:30 am. Trash trucks will either come very early prior to work beginning, or at the end of the day when the street is opened.
- Drive on the street only after street has been re-opened for through traffic. If a cone is in your driveway, you may not drive on the roadway. You may damage the road and your car, you will be responsible for the cost of repairs to the roadway.
- The night before the work is to begin:
- Remove all dumpsters, basketball hoops, trailers and vehicles parked on the street
-
Turn off sprinklers for the date/duration of the closure!
What NOT To Do
-
DON’T MOVE OR REMOVE BARRICADES.
- Do not drive your vehicle during the road closure; it could ruin your car and the street which may incur fines/penalties. Wait until the street is opened for through traffic.
- If you don’t follow the above guidelines, you may damage your car & the new street will have unsightly indentations and grooves in the new slurry seal
- Follow these driving guidelines for the next 1-2 days.
- No sharp turns or U turns
- No speeding
- No sharp or hard breaks/stops
- No stationary power steering turns
- No fast acceleration
THERE WILL BE A CONE IN YOUR DRIVEWAY TO SIGNAL THAT THE STREET IS CLOSED.
THE CONE WILL BE REMOVED UPON COMPLETION OF YOUR STREET TO SIGNAL IT IS OKAY TO USE THE ROAD AGAIN!
